Dispatch from Education: Engaging Early Childhood Centers through School Collaborations
During the 2013–14 academic year The Studio Museum in Harlem worked with ABC Echo Park and Dorothy Day Early Childhood Center, two early childhood centers located in our community.
Our early childhood center collaborations are arts-based literary engagement programs inspired by the exhibitions on view at The Studio Museum in Harlem. Some of the goals of the partnerships include: building relationships with community early childhood centers, supporting family and teacher’s engagement with art-making and broadening the experience of early childhood students through gallery visits and learning about artists of African descent.
Students explored the galleries in school groups and in family time with gallery prompts and self-guided exploration. We had a wonderful time engaging with early childhood center families this school year!
